On this day in 2019, Ivorian striker Ephrem Guikan officially parted ways with Kenyan champions Gor Mahia to join Zambian side Buildcon FC.
Guikan, who arrived at K’Ogalo with high expectations, left behind a memorable stint marked by 16 goals across all competitions. During his time at the club, he netted three goals in CAF competitions, three in the SportPesa Shield, and 10 in the FKF Premier League—eight in the 2018 season and two in the 2018/19 campaign before his departure.
Among his standout performances was a sensational brace against Tanzania’s Yanga SC in a CAF Confederation Cup clash at MISC Kasarani on July 18, 2018. Under the floodlights, Guikan inspired Gor Mahia to a commanding 4-0 victory, securing a double over Yanga and boosting their chances of a quarterfinal berth. However, two subsequent defeats dashed their qualification hopes.

Guikan also left his mark in domestic cup action, scoring a hat-trick against lower-tier side Ken Poly FC on June 20, 2018, in the SportPesa Shield, helping Gor Mahia advance to the Round of 16.
Confirming his departure, then-Gor Mahia treasurer Sally Bolo stated:
“Guikan requested to leave, and as a club, we have to respect that. We had a mutual agreement, and we have given him the release letter.”

Guikan’s time at Gor Mahia may have been brief, but his contributions remain etched in the memories of the club’s faithful.
