Kenyan football star, Lydia ‘Ozil’ Akoth has made a move to Tanzanian football giants Yanga Princess, signing a 6-month loan deal with the club. The FKF Women’s Premier League’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) embarks on a new chapter in her career after a remarkable season with the Kenya Police Bullets.

Kenya Police Bullets FC made the announcement on their social media platform, bidding an emotional farewell to the midfielder, saying: “Lydia Akoth – Ozil, as you embark on this new chapter of your journey, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude for everything you’ve done for the team. Your talent, dedication, and passion have left an indelible mark, and we are proud to have been part of your story. Wishing you all the best in this next phase of your career. Keep shining, Ankara Messi Akothee, NYAR KANO REPUBLIC.”

Hailing from Rabuor, Kisumu County, Akoth’s football journey began with a scholarship at Butere Girls High School, a pivotal moment that shaped her career. The 25-year-old midfielder played a key role in guiding Kenya Police Bullets to their first-ever league title last season, securing the MVP award.

Akoth’s excellence extended beyond the domestic league, where she propelled the team to the final of the CECAFA Zonal qualifiers for the CAF Women’s Champions League, narrowly losing 1-0 to Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE).

Before joining Police Bullets, Akoth had stints with Gaspo Women, Zetech Sparks, and Wadadia, where her talent caught the attention of fans and coaches alike.

Lydia Akoth Waganda, her former teammate at both Gaspo Women and Police Bullets, shared a heartfelt message on Facebook: “It has been a pleasure working with you. Thank you for being the best partner ever and for always being there for me through thick and thin. I’m happy for you, but I’m also sad that you’re leaving. Best of luck on your new adventure. Yanga Princess, currently sitting 4th on the Tanzanian Women’s Premier League standings with 12 points from 8 matches, will be hoping Akoth can replicate her impressive form as they push for top honors in the league.
