Scottish Championship side Raith Rovers have secured the services of 21-year-old right-back George Chilaka Gitau on a loan deal from Middlesbrough, running until June 30, 2025.

Gitau, who was born in Hamburg, Germany, and is eligible to represent both Kenya and Germany at the international level, makes the move to gain valuable first-team experience.

The highly rated defender has enjoyed an impressive development journey, having honed his skills at top academies including Crystal Palace, Arsenal, and Brighton before joining Middlesbrough in 2020. Since then, he has steadily risen through the ranks, establishing himself as a key player for Boro’s U18 and U21 teams.

During the 2023/24 season, Gitau made 12 appearances for Middlesbrough U21, contributing four goals and demonstrating his attacking ability from the right-back position. He also had a loan stint at Marske United in the Northern League Division One, gaining crucial senior experience before returning to Middlesbrough, where he finished the season on a high, netting four goals in his final four U21 matches.

Renowned for his versatility, physicality, and pace, Gitau is expected to bring both defensive solidity and attacking dynamism to Raith Rovers as they aim for a strong campaign in the Scottish second tier.
