
Kenyan international Lydia Akoth “Ozil” made a memorable debut in the Tanzanian Women’s Premier League, playing a key role as Yanga Princess cruised to a commanding 3-0 victory over Alliance Girls.
Akoth was named in the starting lineup for Yanga Princess in the much-anticipated debut. The home side took the lead in the 21st minute when Neema Kiniga converted a penalty after Ethiopian forward Aregash Kalsa Tadesse was fouled inside the box.
New signing Jeanine Mukandayisenga doubled Yanga’s advantage in the 35th minute before netting her second goal in the 45th minute to give her side a comfortable 3-0 lead at halftime.
Following the match, Akoth expressed her delight in an interview with the club’s media team. “I feel great—we won! We played well and followed the coach’s instructions,” she said.
