KCB FC made a strong statement in the Mozzart Bet Cup after easing past Chemogoch FC with a comfortable 3-0 victory in a round of 64 encounter at the Nakuru ASK Showground. The FKF Premier League outfit proved too strong for Chemogoch, a team that competes in the FKF Lower Rift Regional League Zone A2, sealing their place in the tournament’s round of 32.
From the onset, KCB asserted their dominance, controlling possession and dictating the tempo of the game. Their attacking intent paid off in the 23rd minute when Derrick Otanga broke the deadlock. The FKF Premier League 2021/22 top scorer was not done yet, as he doubled the lead just eight minutes later, putting the bankers in firm control of the match.
Chemogoch, despite playing in a lower-tier league, showed resilience and attempted to mount a response, but they struggled to break down KCB’s solid defense. The Premier League side, however, continued to press forward and were rewarded again in the 35th minute when Vincent Ondabu found the back of the net, effectively putting the game beyond Chemogoch’s reach.
With a three-goal cushion before halftime, KCB managed the remainder of the match efficiently, ensuring they maintained control while denying Chemogoch any clear-cut chances. The disciplined defensive display ensured the scoreline remained unchanged until the final whistle.
The Mozzart Bet Cup, Kenya’s domestic cup competition, features teams from all levels of the country’s football pyramid, giving lower-tier sides a chance to challenge top-flight clubs. The ultimate prize for the tournament’s winner is a ticket to represent Kenya in the CAF Confederation Cup, adding extra motivation for participating teams.
KCB, last season’s Mozzart Bet Cup finalists, will be hoping to go one step further this time around after falling short in the 2024 final, where they lost 8-7 to Kenya Police in a dramatic penalty shootout. With this commanding win, KCB marches on to the round of 32, keeping their hopes alive for silverware and a potential shot at continental football.
