Tusker FC striker Ryan Ogam has been named the LG/SJAK Sports Personality of the Month (SPOM) for December 2024 after his impressive goal-scoring form in the FKF Premier League.
Ogam, currently the league’s top scorer, netted 15 goals in 14 matches, with six of those coming in December alone. His red-hot form played a crucial role in Tusker FC’s campaign, making him the standout performer in Kenyan sports for the month.
To claim the prestigious award, Ogam edged out a strong field of nominees, including Olympics 5,000m and 10,000m champion Beatrice Chebet. Chebet made headlines on December 31, 2024, when she shattered the World 5km record in Barcelona, but her achievement was not enough to surpass Ogam’s footballing exploits.
Also in contention for the award was Makueni Women Representative Rose Museo, who triumphed in the East Africa Inter-Parliamentary Games, winning the People Living With Disability (PWD) darts title in Mombasa.
Basketball stars Garang Ding and Albert Adera of Nairobi City Thunders were also nominated after guiding their team to a historic milestone. The duo helped the Thunders become the first Kenyan club to qualify for the Africa Basketball League (BAL), further raising Kenya’s profile in continental basketball.
Ogam’s triumph underscores his importance to Tusker FC and the FKF Premier League as a whole, and the award serves as recognition of his consistency and goal-scoring prowess. With the season still ongoing, the striker will be looking to maintain his form and possibly extend his lead as the league’s top marksman
